We knew that day the time is near
For you to leave us behind with tears
As we bid goodbye to the first fallen leaf
Our hearts are, but all, filled with grief
But God has reasons of His own
With His plans largely unknown
Dad never made a fortune, or a noise
But taught much with his poise
He was reliable, rarified and kind;
Clean in heart, considerate defined.
God’s loving empathy he showed.
To us in our joys and at crossroads.
Moments before that morning episode,
I realized too soon the tide bellowed
Not long enough to hold his hand,
Not long enough time to stand
Beside this amazing person
Who taught much on life’s lesson.
Not long enough to engage his eyes
Brimming with pride all through, he bid goodbye.
Dedicated to my dad, (L) Siamhnun Hauzel, CHM, BHM, Retired Indian Army Personnel, in remembrance of his 12th death anniversary (December 12, 1999). We still miss you a lot!
