Yeah! Sure, it had been a long time since I post new articles in my blog. Some significant events had happened since I last post in the middle of January 2010. Don’t really know where to begin. I am just as confused as many others to choose IPL or EPL??? I can bear with IPL on weekdays, but at least on weekends, the TV should be switched on for EPL. What about some democracy here, mates?? (I am staying in a Hostel, and we have a common TV)
I don’t really hate IPL or cricket as such, but just can’t get myself really involved in the nuances of cricket. Maybe I was not brought up in a place where cricket is not a dominant sports among children. The recent addition of two more IPL teams with the ‘moolah’ they put into is really a waste, I would say. Why put so much money into a single sport where it is slowing killing other sports (like the national game HOCKEY) to grow in the country. Why can’t we develop multiple games simultaneously like Australia and England where they both have good football, cricket and hockey national teams and are among leaders in their respective fields.
Other than cricket and sports in general, getting back to my academic responsibilities, I had this great opportunity to intern at Tata Memorial Hospital, the best cancer hospital in India (as per “The WEEK” survey, 2009). Five weeks had gone and now busy writing a ‘thick’ report. The sufferings of patients, both young and old, the extent of pain that cancer can inflict, I mean in terms of just not the physical pain, but also emotional, psychological and financial FEAR that cancer has on people is just unimaginable. I sometimes wish I could do something to alleviate their pain, maybe even for a minute. The look on their faces, Oh my! I never could muster enough courage to look at them straight. Most of the time, I just walk straight, held my heads up and pretend not to see or hear anything.
To add to this fuel of emotional rage, I had the opportunity to enter the Operation Theatre (did a detailed study on this department) while a surgery is going on. The view from a few feet away is not that enticing but I surprised myself through my curiosity which is as strong as it ever was. May God help them all. To all those in pain and suffering, my prayers goes out to you all tonight. Till then…
